Heather McGowan joined the athletic department as the Athletic Foundation Marketing Director on July 1, 2010. She will be responsible for the foundation marketing, as well as having a large part of coordinating outside fundraising events, such as the Cougar Classic golf tournament and the Student-Athlete Alumni Luncheon. She will also assist in strengthening community relations and generating greater interest in athletic events.

McGowan is a graduate of the University of Georgia, earning a Bachelors of Arts in Journalism, with a concentration in Public Relations in May of 2010. She was an intern in the marketing department for the University of Georgia Athletic Association. In this capacity she assisted with the promotional efforts to increase attendance and built relationships with organizations to generate more group ticket sales for all UGA athletic team events.

The Columbus native has had a huge hand in philanthropy and volunteer work while at Georgia. As a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity, McGowan helped orchestrate a 5K Walk/Run and a benefit concert for juvenile arthritis research and the Lauren McKinnon Fund, respectively, raising nearly $14,000 in 2008. Her planned fundraisers with UGA HEROs helped contribute over $1 million for children infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS in Georgia. McGowan also spent three years as a Downtown Falcons cheerleading coach for inner-city children.
